COVERDALE, Del.- Delaware State Police have released the name of the suspect shot and killed in a home invasion that occurred late Sunday night in the Coverdale area east of Bridgeville.
Police identified the suspect as Larry T. Hobbs, 20, of Laurel, Del.
Troopers said the incident occurred around 11:54 p.m. Sunday when a 9-1-1 call was placed from the 11000 block of Iris Field Lane stating that someone had been shot inside the home. Troopers arrived on the scene and located an unresponsive man near the kitchen area with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The suspect, Larry T. Hobbs was pronounced dead at the scene by Sussex County Paramedics and was later removed by the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Police said the preliminary investigation revealed that an adult male resident was alone inside the house when Hobbs and another suspect broke in. Troopers said a struggle ensued with the suspects and a single round was fired from a handgun that one of the suspects possessed, striking Hobbs in the upper torso. The second suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction. The male resident was uninjured in the incident, according to police.
The second suspect that fled the scene was described as a male wearing all dark clothing and a mask over his face. No further information or description is available.
State police homicide detectives are continuing their investigation by conducting interviews and collecting evidence at the scene to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
