NORTHAMPTON CO., Va. - Traffic was backed up for at least an hour Wednesday night on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel because of a vehicle fire.
According to CBBT officials, a camper caught fire just before 11:30 p.m. in the area of mile marker 17 in the northbound lanes north of the bridge.
A witness said the camper caught fire, then after about 20 minutes, there was a loud bang and emergency crews on the scene went running as it exploded. No word as of Thursday morning on any injuries, but a witness told WBOC that police told him there were no obvious signs of anyone being in the camper.
All lanes on the bridge in that area were closed for at least an hour on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
