WORCESTER COUNTY, MD– The Assateague Coastal Trust announced Newport Bay was selected for $2 million in state watershed funding.

Maryland's Department of Natural Resources will administer the funds through the state's Whole Watershed Act, passed in 2024.

The money will go toward a five-year initiative focused on water quality and habitat improvements, as well as flood and storm water management.

The Assateague Coastal Trust, Maryland Coastal Bays, Lower Shore Land Trust, Worcester County and the Town of Berlin submitted a joint proposal for the funding in December.
