CAMBRIDGE, Md. - The Cambridge branch of the Dorchester County Public Library is set to temporarily close January 2027 to repair the flooring in parts of the building.
Library officials say they expect the closure of their building on Gay Street to last for six to eight weeks while the flooring on the ground-level is replaced. They say the repairs will also improve accessibility and protect the health and safety of patrons and staff.
They say while the Cambridge branch is closed, the Hurlock Branch will remain open Mondays through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Thursdays 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Hurlock Book Locker will also be available 24/7 to pick up requested materials.
They say this also means all Friends of the Library book sales will be postponed until further notice, and they plan for them to resume in the spring of 2027. Friends of the Library are not able to accept any donated items until after the repair project is done.
Library officials say they planned for the flooring repairs to start earlier, but there have been ongoing issues with the building, including continued water leaking into the building and HVAC-related concerns that must be dealt with first.
