CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. - The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company says a mare, Splash of Freckles, was found dead this morning after a pony round-up.
They say they gathered all the stallions, mares, and foals in the north corral earlier today. A vet noticed Splash of Freckles was not there.
They say on their way to the corral, the cowboys found her remains in the woods, with no signs of struggle.
They say they believe she had a quick health decline, then died.
