DOVER, DE - The Delaware Department of Transportation says their 6th Annual Bridge Competition brought in a record number of participants.

DelDOT held their 6th Annual Bridge Competition last week at PolyTech High School in Dover, Delaware. The competition is a "day-long hands-on engineering competition aimed to engage students interested in the math, science, and engineering fields". DelDOT says the competition is designed to encourage students to address "real-world problems" and to inspire them to pursue careers in civil engineering or transportation.

At this year's bridge competition, the department says they had a record number of students participate, with 500 students on 161 teams, from 29 schools across Delaware.

DelDOT says there are three top finishers for each grade bracket. Those students receive scholarship money donated by the Delaware Bridge Design Competition Sponsors.
