DELAWARE - The Delaware Emergency Management Agency is coordinating with federal officials from FEMA Region 3 as Tropical Storm Ophelia impacts the first state.

The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory, high wind warning, high surf advisory and a high rip current risk for coastal communities. The high winds are expected into this evening with rainfall persisting through the weekend.

The Delaware National Guard is being activated and will be in place to support any necessary operations by 1 p.m. on Saturday.

On Friday, DEMA officials say emergency officials in Kent and Sussex Counties met with town managers and local fire companies to assess needs and plan operations for the weekend.

DNREC’s Division of Parks and Recreation has reportedly already closed campgrounds in coast areas and some mobile home parks in Sussex County have had power shut off to prevent transformer inundation.
