DORCHESTER COUNTY, Md. - The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office is investigating a reported police impersonation incident during a late-night traffic stop Tuesday.

According to the Sheriff's Office, deputies were notified just before midnight on June 9 after a driver reported being stopped by a tan Chevrolet Suburban displaying red and blue emergency lights.

The caller told investigators the driver of the SUV identified himself as a Cambridge police officer but did not display a badge or any official law enforcement identification.

Authorities say when the complainant questioned the man's credentials, he returned to his vehicle and later showed a law enforcement patch from a different police department. As the complainant began calling 911, the suspect reportedly instructed them to continue driving before leaving the area.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, wearing a ball cap and a dark-colored shirt.

A short time later, deputies located and recovered the vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Anyone who may have experienced a similar encounter, observed the Suburban, recognizes the suspect description, or has information related to the case is asked to contact police at 410-228-4141.
