ASSATEAGUE ISLAND - The United State Geological Survey says a 2.6 magnitude earthquake struck 18 miles off the coast.

According to the USGS, the earthquake struck around 8:21 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Officials say it originated about 30 kilometers (around 18 miles) east of Greenbackville, Virginia and was 11.2 kilometers (around 6 miles) deep.

It is unlikely that the earthquake would be felt by anyone due to the magnitude.
