EASTON, Md.- An Easton man has been arrested and charged after he reportedly file a false police report.

Police say on July 25, Alejandro Castanon Dionicio, 50, allegedly told officers that he was on the Rails to Trails near the train station in Easton when a man asked him for $5 around 5:30 p.m. Castanon told the man he did not have any money so the suspect reportedly took a dollar from Castanon’s pocket, hit him with a bat, and left the area. Castanon says that he ran to a nearby business for help.

Detectives spent several hours contacting businesses and looking through surveillance video, according to police. Authorities say through the investigation it was learned that the robbery never happened.

On July 27, Easton Police arrested Castanon. He was charged with two counts of false statements to a police officer and two counts of obstructing and hindering a police officer. He is being held at the Talbot County Detention Center.
