SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. - The Coast Guard says an elderly woman was rescued from the Delaware Bay after drifting away from the beach.
The U.S. Coast Guard East District says on Aug. 6, around 1 p.m., authorities received a report that a 71-year-old woman was seen drifting away from Beach Plum Island on a flotation device.
Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was in the area for training and was diverted to the scene. Authorities say about 20 minutes later, they located the woman in the water about a mile offshore.
The Coast Guard says the woman was transported to Delaware Coastal Airport, where EMS evaluated her, with no reported injuries.
