Delmar Fire 0429

DELMAR, Md. – A fire at a Delmar business caused nearly $400,000 in damage Tuesday morning, but no injuries were reported.

According to the Delmar Fire Department, the fire broke out around 11:39 a.m. at Kings Mulch and Pallets, located at 29729 Foskey Lane. Firefighters arrived to find a 50-by-120-foot metal and wood-framed pole building in flames, along with a trailer and multiple wooden pallets.

Officials say about 25 firefighters from several departments responded and had the flames under control within 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene for about two hours to extinguish hotspots.

The fire caused an estimated $260,000 in structural damage and $120,000 in lost contents. There were no working smoke alarms or sprinklers in the building, according to the fire department.

The fire was discovered by employees. Investigators say they have not yet determined the cause but are looking into whether sawing operations on wooden pallets inside the building may have played a role.

The incident remains under investigation.
