CAROLINE COUNTY, Md. - Some nursing homes on the Eastern Shore and across Western Maryland have low COVID-19 vaccination rates among employees, according to the Maryland Department of Health. Only 7 out of 230 facilities have all of their staff vaccinated.
Some facilities report under 50% of employees has gotten the vaccine, as shown on the MD Department of Health's Skilled Nursing Facilities Vaccination Dashboard. This percentage is below state averages.
76.6% of Maryland nursing home workers are fully vaccinated with 78.5% of staff having their first dose out of a two-dose vaccine administration. 83.7% of nursing home residents are now fully vaccinated.
According to the US Centers for Disease and Control Prevention, people who are vaccinated can still be carriers of COVID-19. Therefore, transmission can still occur in facilities such as nursing homes.
According to the Maryland Department of Health, Caroline County nursing homes have one of the lowest rates of staff vaccinations at only 46.7%.
The Skilled Nursing Facilities Vaccination Dashboard data updates weekly per self-reports by these facilities.
