Mayor Grecia Quiroz navigates the streets of Uruapan with heavy security, nearly a year after her partner, Carlos Manzo, was assassinated. Manzo, known for his fight against cartels, was killed during Day of the Dead celebrations. Quiroz, who succeeded him, vows to continue his battle. The assassination has intensified political tensions in Michoacan, with accusations flying between rival factions. Authorities blame the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and 34 people have been detained. Quiroz faces scrutiny for not handing over Manzo’s cellphone. Uruapan has seen a surge in violence, prompting Quiroz to request government assistance.
