U.S. Vice President JD Vance is in Rome for talks on tariffs with Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni. The White House suggested a broader U.S.-Europe summit was under consideration and that President Donald Trump plans to visit soon. Vance's visit comes just a day after the Italian leader received praise from Trump for her crackdown on migration during a meeting at the Oval Office. Vance also planned to attend Easter weekend events at the Vatican and meet with the Vatican secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin. No meeting with Pope Francis was announced. Francis and Vance, a Catholic convert, have tangled sharply over migration and the Trump administration’s plans to deport migrants en masse.
