ACCOMAC, Va. - A NEW Christmas ORNAMENT IN Virginia HAS BEEN REVEALED FOR THE UPCOMING HOLIDAYS. HOWEVER, MANY NOTICED THAT IT'S MISSING ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL.
The CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT CAN BE PURCHASED FROM THE Virginia Museum OF HISTORY and Christmas trees form the map of Virginia, but it does not include the Eastern Shore of virginia.
IT WAS OMITTED FROM THE ORNAMENT. THE DIRECTOR OF THE EASTERN SHORE PUBLIC LIBRARY, Cara BURTON, sAYS SHE NOTICED THAT THE PENINSULA WAS NOT INCLUDED AND DOESN'T WANT THE AREA TO BE FORGOTTEN.
"Leaving off the two counties of the Eastern Shore of Virginia is a sensitive spot for many people here because we feel like we shouldn't be forgotten. Our history on the Eastern Shore here is extremely long," says Burton.
MANY SAY THEY ARE SHOCKED THAT THE EASTERN SHORE WAS NOT INCLUDED, ESPECIALLY FROM A HISTORY MUSEUM SINCE THERE's SO MUCH HISTORY THAT COMES FROM THE PENINSULA. MIKE MASON, the COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR OF Accomack COUNTY, SAYS THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED.
"We have seen this type of omission before. I haven't seen one recently but for some reason, we'll come across a map that's been put out that conveniently leaves out the Eastern Shore," says Mason.
To understand WHY THE EASTERN SHORE WAS NOT INCLUDED, WBOC REACHED OUT TO THE Virginia HISTORICAL Society but DID NOT RECEIVE A RESPONSE.
