Cyber Ninja Program Launches in Dover

DOVER, Del.- Multiple organizations and students from all over are combining cyber security with self-defense.

The "Cyber Ninja" event at the Premier Martial Arts center was a combination between the center, the Sankofa Inner City Cultural League and the Cyber Streets after school program, which teaches students about cyber security.

"The conception is about bringing actually technology to the community and basically we are adding different facets to it all the time," explains Ezra Williams. "This is a fairly new thing the self defense, but we have taught robotics, we have taught coding, we have taught how to build different types of circuits and get them interested in technology as a whole in our after school program."

Cyber Streets founder Rob Bentley says the Cyber Ninja martial arts training brings a whole new style of learning and participation to the program.

"The cool thing about martial arts is that it's all inclusive," he says. "It allows everybody to get up and play. So even the young men that might not have the confidence or the young women sitting on the side, [it] gives them the opportunity to come in be a part of the game as well."

For the after school students and young martial arts students, it's also a chance to form new friendships and life-long skills.

"Our two groups are coming together to learn how to be safe," says Monica Garcia.
