Lewes Man Arrested On Weapon, Drug Charges

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- A Sussex County Man is behind bars Tuesday following a shoplifting at a department store in Rehoboth Beach.

Delaware State Police were called to the Helly Hansen store on Seaside Outlet Drive around 11:50 p.m. Monday.

Troopers identified the suspect as 26-year-old Tre Jamal Edwards of Lewes. He was pulled over in a black Kia Optima while traveling northbound on Coastal Highway near Munchy Branch Road, police said.

According to police, a handgun was reportedly found on the passenger seat of Edwards' car. During a search, troopers allegedly uncovered 10.92 grams of marijuana, 0.74 grams of cocaine, eight 9 millimeter rounds loaded in a magazine and over $600 in suspected drug money. 

Edwards was arrested and charged. He was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $38,500 cash only bond.
