Back the Blue Event Happening Wednesday in Delmar

DELMAR, Md.- On Wednesday, people across Delmarva are invited to come out and Back the Blue in honor of fallen officer Corporal Keith Heacook.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, the Blue Line Network is hosting the drive through event at the Kylan Barn on Route 54. Drivers can have a thin blue line (a sign of law enforcement support) placed on their car. The event is free but donations will be accepted for Cpl. Heacook's son Matthew's trust.

"This 12-year-old boy is never going to be able to see his daddy again and we as a community just wanted to come together and try our best to raise some money and make things a little easier," says organizer Nicole Scharf. "All funds raised are going to that account for the family."

Scharf says those who do not want a blue line on their car can get a sticker in the shape of a badge. She says a number of organizations have come out to help fund the free event, such as Delmarva Power, Caliber Collision and DelDOT providing signage.

"I am just proud to live in Delmar in a community where all of these events have been popping up all over the place and people have been so generous," Scharf tells WRDE. "The outpouring of love and support for law enforcement for the family has been huge."

The event will be held rain or shine. Scharf says they are still in need of volunteers especially in the morning hours. Interested volunteers may reach out via Facebook or simply show up to Kylan Barn as early as 9.
