Seven Arrested in Connection to Spree of Car Thefts in Northern Delaware

KENT/NEW CASLTE COUNTY, Del. -- Delaware State Police have arrested seven people, some young teens, they said were involved with stealing cars from dealerships and garages in northern Delaware, including a dealership in Dover.

The incidents happened throughout the second half of June, when the first attempted burglary took place on June 16. 

According to DSP, the suspects would try to break into a closed business by damaging the buildings and steal the keys to the cars before driving them off the lot. 

The first two incidents happened in Wilmington. Police said they tried to break in to CAR Shop on June 16 and Major Motors the next day. 

The following day, June 18, state police said the suspects burglarized C&D Auto Sales in Townsend, where they took car keys, temporary Delaware registrations, and a laptop before driving off in a Chrysler from the lot.

On June 19th, DSP said the suspects tried to burglarize CMJ Motors in Townsend before they went to Intellicar in Dover. Police said the suspects took keys and key fobs from inside the business before driving off in a Volkswagon Passat, Ford Explorer, Ford Fusion, and Nissan Pathfinder.

Then on June 26, the suspects went to Willy Auto Repair in Wilmington, where DSP said the suspects took the keys and drove off in a Lexus, Subaru Legacy, Mercedes Benz and a Nissan Quest. 

In connection to the CAR Shop, Major Motors, C&D Auto, CMJ Motors and Intellicar, five people were arrested and charged with various burglary and theft charges.

  • Devante Burton, 24 of Wilmington, was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $25,000 secured bond.
  • Elijah Pennewell, 16 of Wilmington, was arraigned and released to a guardian. He was also arrested in connection to the Willy Auto Repair Shop incident.
  • Daquane Woodruff, 20 of Wilmington, was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $27,000 secured bond.
  • Jalen Jackson, 20 of Wilmington, was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $29,500 a secured bond.
  • Charles Bultron, 14 of Wilmington, was arraigned and released to a guardian in connection to only the C&D Auto incident.

As for the incident at the Willy Auto Repair Shop, four people were charged.

  • Mercedes Pennewell, 17 of Wilmington, was arraigned and released to a guardian.
  • Jahlier Curtis, 15 of Wilmington, was committed to the Ferris School on a $5,000 secured bond.
  • Dakota Charles Khiefrieder,18 of New Castle, is wanted for this incident.
