REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- The Independence Day celebration is one of two occasions it is legal to buy and use fireworks in Delaware. The other is New Year's Day. That was what the state legislature approved in April 2018. With July 4 just a few days away, John Zoldan has traveled from his Ohio home and is open for business at the Phantom Fireworks tent located in the parking lot of the Rehoboth Market Place on Miller Road. "Each state we go to has different laws," Zoldan said. "In Delaware, whatever I have here is legal." What is legal in the state is limited in the fireworks world. Just non-explosive items such as sparklers and ground based fireworks are allowed. Each community also has its own set of laws and within the Rehoboth Beach city limits no fireworks of any type are allowed. The city does have something to meet the need for colorful explosions. Preparations continue for their fireworks display, scheduled for July 3 at 9:30 p.m. "We have been doing it for a number of years," Mayor Paul Kuhns said. "It is a massive display of fireworks that goes on for 15 to 25 minutes." The event draws a large enough crowds that the city has a number of road closures for July 3, including prohibiting vehicle traffic from entering Rehoboth Avenue at the circle beginning at 7 p.m. For information on the Rehoboth Beach fireworks click
