SALISBURY, Md. - Two Somerset County men have been sentenced to prison for charges of drug possession with intent to distribute.
According to the State's Attorney, Alvin Thompson, 34, of Princess Anne was sentenced to 10 years in the Maryland Division of Corrections.
On Feb. 20, Thompson pleaded guilty and was convicted of one count of possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl.
Judge S. James Sarbanes ordered Thompson to forfeit his vehicle that he used in furtherance of his crimes and placed Thompson on four years of supervised probation when he is released from prison.
On Feb. 14, Judge Sarbanes sentenced James Cornell Mackey, Jr., 38, to eight years in state prison. Thompson pleaded guilty and was convicted of one count each of possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl and second degree assault.
Judge Sarbanes placed Thompson on four years of supervised probation when he is released from prison.
Thompson and Mackey were arrested during a narcotics investigation initiated by Deputies with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office in the area of Valleywood Drive in Salisbury.
Deputies executed a search and seizure warrant in June, 2019, arresting Thompson, Mackey and other co-defendants.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies recovered over 70 grams of fentanyl during the execution of the search warrant.
The sheriff's office said Mackey pushed a Wicomico County Deputy in an attempt to flee while the deputy attempted to arrest Mackey, resulting in the second degree assault conviction.
