Blood Bank of Delmarva Celebrates 65 Years of Service

SALISBURY, Md.- The Blood Bank of Delmarva is asking people who are healthy to keep their appointments to donate and to attend upcoming blood drives.

Forty percent of blood donations in our area come from blood drives that are hosted by schools, organizations and businesses. Blood bank officials say as these groups take precautions against COVID-19, they are seeing a growing number of canceled blood drives and low donor turn-out.

"We are asking the organizations that do host the mobile blood drives to if at all possible keep us in their calendar because not only regionally but nationally there is a blood shortage developing," account manager Bryan Shepherd says.

In anticipation of blood drive cancellations and low turnout at centers, the blood bank is seeking to double the reserves now so that it can prevent possible shortages.

"Please continue to support us through this crisis. We unfortunately have a need that only people can give us," Shepherd says. "So please, please if you're feeling healthy and well to come in and donate."
