SALISBURY, Md.- Maryland State Police say a man was under the influence when he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a line of cars for sale at a Salisbury auto dealership.
It happened shortly after 1 p.m. at the Safford Kia of Salisbury dealership on North Salisbury Boulevard at Pine Way.
Troopers said Kevin Charles Harris, 33, of Berlin, Md., admitted he was driving his Toyota Tacoma pickup while under the influence of a controlled substance when he fell asleep and went off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Police said the Toyota continued into the parking lot of Safford Kia of Salisbury and struck and damaged several vehicles for sale on the lot, resulting in approximately $225,000 in damage.
Evidence of controlled substance use was located in the vehicle, according to police.
Harris was placed under arrest for the traffic and drug offenses, and was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Police said Harris, who submitted to a blood test, told troopers at the hospital that he was also arrested by the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office on Jan. 8 for a DUI-related offense.
Delmarva Power responded to the scene to repair the utility pole.
