SALISBURY, Md. - History was made on Tuesday as the city of Salisbury and developers broke ground on "The Ross."
"So it's not only going to be the tallest building in Salisbury, but the tallest building on the Eastern Shore outside of Ocean City," Salisbury Mayor Jake Day said.
Developer Nick Simpson says it's always been his vision to build something for the younger professionals and students to attract them downtown.
"I always wanted to build up. So it was a match demand to building something that's inspirational and having fun with it," Simpson said.
The building on 130 Main Street will feature 59 apartments for Salisbury University student housing, complete with a rooftop to grill and see the view. An additional rooftop access will be available for those using a spacious conference room and kitchen.
"When I think about it walking down the plaza, like we're walking down there today like that thing is going to be up there. How cool will that be on move in day in August when it's populated by students and they're hopping around downtown," architect Brenden Frederick said.
Simpson is hoping to have students in "The Ross" by as early as the end of 2020.
