SMITH ISLAND, Md - Strong winds whipped a brush fire that burned near an electric plant on Smith Island Friday night, according to the Ewell Fire Department.
The fire was contained about 9:30 p.m. after burning near the A&N Electric Cooperative near Caleb Jones Road. Firefighters from the Ewell, Crisfield, and Tylerton Fire departments remained on the scene through the night to monitor the aftermath of the fire, according to Ewell Fire Chief Eddie Evans.
No one was injured and no one was displaced from their homes, according to Evans.
The cause is under investigation.
