MARYLAND - Maryland safety and transportation officials are seeing higher numbers of traffic fatalities this year compared to previous years, with the number of deaths projected to be highest since 2007.
According to Zero Deaths Maryland, which tracks traffic fatalities throughout the state, there have been 554 fatalities so far in 2023. Safety officials say that’s a nearly 8% increase over the same period last year. At the current rate, Zero Deaths Maryland projects more than 600 car crash fatalities by the end of the year, a number the State hasn’t seen since 2007.
While Baltimore and Prince George’s have the highest number of traffic deaths this year, the Eastern Shore is unfortunately represented on the list of Maryland counties with fatalities in 2023 thus farr. Those numbers are as follows:
