MILFORD, Del. - The Delaware Department of Justice has announced the sentencing of a Milford man nearly two years after he was convicted of beating a woman with a liquor bottle and stabbing her multiple times.

Authorities say they were called to a home on Tull Way in Milford on Nov. 3, 2024 just before 10 p.m. on reports of a stabbing. There, police said they found a woman critically injured. Prosecutors said Derrick Legree, 37 at the time, beat the victim with a glass liquor bottle and stabbed her with a knife five times.

The victim required emergency surgery, extensive hospitalization, and aftercare, according to the DOJ.

Legree was later arrested in Philadelphia and extradited back to Delaware where he faced numerous counts including attempted murder, possession of a deadly weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child.

In September, The DOJ says Legree was sentenced to life plus 21 years on multiple convictions.

"Thanks to the hard work of our DOJ team and our partners in law enforcement, and the bravery of the victim, this violent offender will never hurt anyone again,” said Attorney General Kathy Jennings. “I hope that this knowledge will bring the victim some peace as she continues to heal.”
