GREENWOOD, DE - The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) has announced the temporary closure of Newton Pond near Greenwood for the addition of two new fishing piers.

According to DNREC, the construction of the piers is set to begin December 26th with an anticipated completion date of February 14th.

Two new 120-foot-long aluminum fishing piers will run parallel to the shoreline to allow for better fishing access for trout and other species, DNREC says. According to the Department, anglers currently have to navigate the pond’s step slopes to access the water’s edge for fishing.

“The new piers will be a great improvement for shoreline fishing in the pond, especially for this upcoming trout season,” DNREC saud ub a statement.

The project is slated for completion before the 2024 trout season, which typically begins in early March according to DNREC’s website.
