Oceans Calling

OCEAN CITY, MD - This weekend, thousands flocked to Ocean City's boardwalk for the inaugural Oceans Calling Music Festival. The event featured headline acts such as Jack Johnson, John Mayer, and The Lumineers.

Event Organizers tell WBOC the event attracted nearly 50,000 attendees each day of the three day event. As a result -- many seasonal businesses kept their doors open to capitalize on the extra foot traffic.

Some local businesses, like All Friends Coffee, experienced record-breaking sales.

"It's triple the business compared to Fourth of July, Labor Day, or anything we've had so far," said Andrada -- the shops manager.

The town of Ocean City estimated that the festival would generate $30 million dollars in economic revenue for the town.

Max Caster from Ocean City Outlet mentioned that they extended their season for the event. However, with the city closing businesses near exits to prevent excessive crowding after the headliner performances, he questioned if the effort was worth it -- and feels just the boardwalk shops have been prioritized.

"If we don't get business throughout the whole day, we at least hope we can get business at night after the concert, but they didn't let us, they closed us." said Caster.

The city is looking to hold the event annually.
