DELMARVA - While the worst of Tropical Storm Ophelia has passed and the storm has been downgraded to a tropical depression, minor to moderate flooding threats remain Sunday in some parts of our area.
The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning in Dorchester, Wicomico, and Somerset Counties until 4 p.m. today, September 24th. WBOC Meteorologist John Conway says the primary threats linger along the Chesapeake Bay.
The Weather Service warns of one to two feet of water above ground level in low lying areas near shorelines and waterways. Roads may be closed and homes and businesses may see property damage, according to the NWS.
The National Weather Service predicts minor flooding impacts in Cambridge around 11 a.m. this morning, and a moderate impact at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. in Bishops Head. A minor impact in Crisfield is currently underway as of 8 a.m. - WBOC’s Kirstyn Clark was on the scene this morning to document flooded and impassible streets near the intersection of Wynfall Avenue and Hall Highway.
Crisfield may see an elevated, moderate flooding impact tonight around 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also active for Kent and Sussex Counties in Delaware until 9 p.m. Sunday, with minor risks predicted for tonight’s early evening hours. The NWS says both the Murderkill River at Bowers Beach and the Delaware Bay at Lewes could see minor impacts around 5 p.m. Sunday.
WBOC will continue to monitor flooding risks across Delmarva as the lingering effects of Ophelia finally pass.
