SALISBURY, Md. - Perdue Farms truck drivers and volunteers held their annual Operation Teddy Bear at the Holly Center on Saturday.
The company partners with The Holly Center, a facility for people with mental and physical disabilities. A holiday decorated convoy of tractor-trailers rides on an 11-mile loop through Wicomico County starting at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
It was created as a way to bring Christmas cheer to the Center's residents.
"The event here at the Holly Center started for us in 1982. We had a driver here named Bill Carey and a driver here Dale and he wanted to drive Dale around in the truck at this time of the year so he asked for permission in a sense of using the truck and my dad said absolutely and it just grew from there," said Perdue Farms Chairman Jim Perdue.
This is the 38th year for the event. Operation Teddy Bear'S name is inspired by the 1976 song "Teddy Bear" recorded by country music artist the late Red Sovine.
