DOVER, Del.- Julianne Murray has defeated state Sen. Colin Bonini and four other candidates for the Republican Party’s nod for Delaware governor.

Murray came in first with 41% of the vote, followed by Bonini, who took 35%.

Murray will take on Democratic Gov. John Carney, Libertarian John Machurek and Kathy DeMatteis of the Independent Party of Delaware in November's general election.

"I want to win," Murray said. "I think that I stand the best chance in a head-to-head race with Carney, I really do."

Newcomer Murray was endorsed by the state GOP. She is representing her husband who is currently suing Carney over COVID-19 restrictions in the First State. .
