Salisbury Shopping Scene Changing, The Commons Sold for $14.25 Million

SALISBURY, Md.- The shopping scene is continuously changing in north Salisbury. The latest change involved the shopping center The Commons, along Route 13, which recently sold for $14.25 million to RCG Ventures.

The Commons is 130,154-square-feet, and includes stores like Best Buy, Lane Bryant, and The Home Depot.

Some shoppers in town were shocked when they heard the price tag, others not so much.

"It never surprises me what people will pay for anything these days," said Evelyn Williams, of Salisbury.

With the recent purchase, shoppers can't help but notice other change to store fronts.

"No matter what city or state you live in, there's going to be change," Helen Wells said.

If you're at Target, you'll notice big metal storage containers taking up most of the parking lot. A lot of reconstruction is taking place inside the store, as well as down the street on Route 13.

An Aldi supermarket is going up on the corner of Dagsboro Road and Route 13. The store is anticipating a November opening.

Crews are getting the new Burlington ready, which is set to open this fall at The Centre at Salisbury mall.

"Even when stores leave, whoever the owners are, they attract new businesses," Debra Naylor said.

But business isn't booming for other shops in Salisbury.

"It seems like everything's going. K-Mart closed, Toys R Us is closing, everything is leaving from around here," Duane Williams said.

It's an empty parking lot for sporting goods chain, Gander Mountain, which filed for bankruptcy last summer.

And a Burger King building at the corner of Route 13 and Naylor Mill Road sits vacant, while a new one opened up just a few blocks north.
