GEORGETOWN, Del.- The Sussex County Department of Elections has released the unofficial results for the Sussex County Council District 3 race between Republican Mark Schaeffer and write-in candidate Patti Drago.
According to the Department of Elections, Mark Schaeffer took the seat with 16,547 votes.
Patti Drago trailed behind, receiving only 10,402 votes.
Now, the Sussex County Court of Canvass is working to certify these results. The Department of Elections says this certification process is extremely tedious, especially because one of the candidates was a write-in. Each ballot must be checked to ensure that there were no inconsistencies with the count.
The Court of Canvass is hard at work, but election officials do not expect to have an officially confirmed winner in District 3 until early Friday morning.
