Maryland Police Investigate Fatal Wrong-Way Crash

BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Delaware State Police are investigating are deadly crash that happened Friday morning on Atlanta Rd. and Sandhill Rd.

According to police, at 7:24 a.m., a Toyota Corolla driven by 20-year-old Cameron Gray of Federalsburg, Md., was traveling eastbound on Atlanta Rd. driving on a slight right curve. At the same time, a fully loaded cement Mack Granite truck drive by a 53-year-old man of Bridgeville, was traveling westbound.

Police say, due to unknown circumstances, the Toyota failed to begin turning on a curve and crossed into the westbound lane directly into the path of the cement truck. The truck attempted to avoid the car by breaking, however, the front of the Toyota hit the front of the Mack truck head-on. 

The cement truck pushed the Toyota a short distance backwards in a westerly direction before coming to a stop. Immediately after the crash, both the Toyota and the cement truck became ingulfed in flames.

Gray, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 53-year-old truck driver was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 6 hours while the investigation was completed and the roadway was cleared.
