SUSSEX, Del. - The heavy rain, strong winds and higher than normal tides have caused major flooding down the coast.
Many areas in Sussex county are under water and it is expected to get worse as the night moves on into Saturday morning.
Parts of Millsboro, closer to the Indian River, are completely submerged.
Galen Young, who works at the restaurant Serendipity in Millsboro, said the flooding will effect business.
"Water is about a foot from coming up to the board up there, so I don't think anyone is going to be seated outside today," Young said.
Young has worked in the area for years and he said the flooding doesn't happen too often, but when it does, its bad.
"The waves are crashing onto the shore already and over the barriers, so it's going to be nasty." Young said.
The flooding in Fenwick Island was worse Friday then on Thursday. Some streets along the bay are becoming inundated. Many cars and people are stranded in their homes due to the high levels of water.
Some people are riding out the storm by staying sheltered indoors, while others are out storm chasing.
Kandy Lackey and her husband drove to Fenwick Island for the day to see for themselves the waves and coastal flooding.
"We are going to go down to the ocean because we want to see these high tides they are talking about," Lackey said. "They are suppose to be about 13 feet high. I'm not sure its going to make it that big. But we are still anxious to see what those weather conditions are."
The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flooding warning, which will remain in effect until 9:00 pm Friday night.
