Holiday Vandalism at Schellville Christmas Village in Rehoboth Beach

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - A GRINCH IS TRYING TO RUIN Christmas IN ONE PART OF Sussex COUNTY. ORGANIZERS OF THE POPULAR Schellville Christmas VILLAGE IN Rehoboth BEACH SAY SOMEONE IS VANDALIZING THEIR COMMUNITY DISPLAY.

SINCE THE VENUE FIRST OPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON November 20, THEY SAY ALMOST EVERY NIGHT THEY ARE REPLACING STRINGS OF Christmas LIGHTS THAT HAD BEEN CUT. ORGANIZERS WANT THIS VANDALISM TO STOP. THE MAZE OF Christmas TREES is just one part OF SCHELLVILLE'SELABORATE DISPLAY. This is the location WHERE WORKERS DISCOVERED THE SEVERED WIRES, OVER AND OVER AGAIN, PEOPLE ARE LEFT WONDERING WHY ANYONE WOULD DO THIS. DIANE Mathis TRAVELED FROM NEW York TO SEE THE DISPLAY AND IS IN DISBELIEF. "It's very upsetting. Who would do such a thing? It's such a nice place. I think they should have more cameras around or have a police car stationed someplace just to watch to keep an eye out on it. It's sad to hear that we have to resort to this after we went through so much during the year. So this should be a happy ending, not a sad one," says Mathis. SCHELL BROTHERS DIRECTOR OF MARKETING, Alyssa Titus, SAYS SHE WANTS THE VANDALISM TO STOP BECAUSE IT'S BECOMING A hassle TO FIX THE ISSUE.  "Someone is cutting lights in our light maze each evening, which causes a lot of issues because we wake up in the morning and there are whole sections of our light maze out. we have to discover which string is cut and unravel that and relight everything. So it's been a real challenge," says Titus. TITUS SAYS THE MAJORITY OF THE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. SHE HOPES THEY WILL NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED AGAIN.  organizers tell WBOC THE SCHELLVILLE Christmas VILLAGE SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS DID NOT CATCH THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE. THEY SAY THEY WILL BE INSTALLING MORE TO CATCH WHOEVER IS TRYING TO RUIN THIS HOLIDAY DISPLAY.
