Lincoln Man Charged With Manslaughter in Son's Death

David B. Chirdon

LINCOLN, Del.- A 62-year-old Lincoln man is facing manslaughter and related charges in connection with last month's shooting death of his son.

Delaware State Police said the arrest of David B. Chirdon stems from an incident that happened on the evening July 10, when troopers were dispatched to a home in the 15000 block of Winner Circle in Lincoln for a death investigation.

Upon arrival, troopers located 34-year-old Brian Chirdon suffering from a gunshot wound.  He was transported to Sussex Bayhealth Hospital in Milford, and later transferred to the Christiana Hospital where he died from his injury. What led up to the shooting is unclear.

On Monday, a Sussex County grand jury indicted Brian's father, David Chirdon, charging him with manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.

The following day David Chirdon turned himself in at Troop 4.  He was arraigned at the Sussex County Superior Court and released after posting $40,000 secured bond.
