LAUREL, Del.- One person is dead following a car crash in Laurel, Friday night.

Just after 2:30 p.m., police say a 2017 Subaru WRX driven by a 17-year-old man of Frankford, was traveling westbound on Sycamore Rd. at a high rate of speed.

A 2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by an 18-year-old man of Salisbury, was also traveling westbound in front of the Subaru.

According to police, the Ford then slowed down at the intersection to make a left turn onto Beaver Dam Branch Rd. When he began the left turn, the Subaru was not able to stop.

In an attempt to avoid hitting the truck, the Subaru began to pass it on the left. However, he was unable to avoid the collision and it's front right struck the front left of the truck.

The crash pushed the Ford in a northwest direction, where it stopped in the westbound lane of Sycamore Rd.

The crash caused the Subaru to exit the roadway while rotating in a counterclockwise direction, until it struck a guide wire. The Subaru did go airborne which lead to the passenger side striking an utility pole.

The crash into the utility pole ejected a 17-year-old male passenger in the Subaru. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification of next of kin.

The 17-year-old Subaru driver was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The 18-year-old Ford driver was not injured.

Sycamore Road at Beaver Dam Branch Road remains closed while a utility pole is replaced.

The investigation remains on-going.
