One local school is saving the planet one solar panel at a time...or more like thousands.
Sussex Academy recently lowered its carbon footprint by adding thousands of solar panels to its campus.
"It's a much larger system and going to lessen our carbon footprint in the long term," said Chief Operating Officer, Duncan Smith.
Constellation is the company providing the school with the panels. But they're also providing students with an interactive education.

"We'll have a monitor in our cafeteria where students will see the power that it's generating on a daily basis, monthly basis, and annual basis. They can see some comparisons and it will include some info-graphics that'll demonstrate how much money we're saving, how many trees are being saved by reducing our carbon footprint," said Smith.
14 rows of over 21-hundred solar panels take up about an acre size of land on the schools campus.
"It's going to reduce our energy cost by an estimated 29-thousand a year," said Smith.
Smith says Sussex Academy already sees the benefits from this project and encourages other schools and businesses to join them.
