The Sixth Annual "Thanksgiving For All" Meal Distribution Initiative Was A Success

MILFORD, Del. - The Food Bank of Delaware partnered with Perdue Farms and The Harry K. Foundation to pack up 450 Thanksgiving meal boxes Tuesday as part of the 6th annual 'Thanksgiving For All' initiative.

School representatives from Sussex and New Castle county picked up the boxes from the Milford branch of the food bank. The representatives will distribute the packaged meals to at risk families within their school district.

Every box contains traditional Thanksgiving food items such as yams, a chicken roaster, gravy mix, corn muffin mix, and various canned items.

President and CEO of the Food Bank of Delaware, Cathy Kanefsky, said everyone deserves a nice and warm thanksgiving meal.

"Everybody's got their favorite," Kanefsky explained. "And ya know the thing that you have to have on your Thanksgiving table. We try to make sure some of those things are what we put in this boxes because these folks that are going to be getting boxes sometimes don't know if they're going to have a meal tomorrow, let alone a Thanksgiving dinner."

The Harry K. Foundation's role in the Thanksgiving For All" initiative is part of a larger year round commitment to ending hunger.

Perdue Farms donated 450 chicken roasters to the Food Bank for Tuesdays event. Perdue Farms has partnered with the Food Bank of Delaware for more than three decades.

Senior manager of community relations at Perdue Farms, Bill See, said one of Perdue's key platforms is hunger relief.  He said as a food company, Perdue has the resources to provide its partner with protein to distribute to those in need.

"Hopefully brighten the Thanksgiving holiday for a lot of families who otherwise may not get the opportunity to sit down and have a meal with their family,"

The partnership will be hosting a similar event in late December called 'Holidays For All.'
