Tornado Aftermath in Harrington

HARRINGTON, Del. - Calls have been coming in since Thursday evening at the Harrington Volunteer Fire Company, reporting all sorts of damage, from downed power lines and trees, to damaged houses and blocked roads.

No injuries were reported from the storm as of Friday evening, but eyewitnesses say that didn't make the situation any less scary.

A tree fell through Amon Young's roof Thursday night. He says the whole ordeal was completely unexpected.

He said, "It was real windy, and we just heard a big boom, and we saw that the roof was messed up."

His mom Shika was at work when it happened. She quickly rushed home -- and saw the damage.

"Yeah it went through, it's leaking in the room, it's still a little flooded in there but, we're trying to dry it out," she said.

Luckily, everyone was okay.

Now, the cleanup now begins.

Shika said, "Yeah we're able to stay here. It's not really big but, you know we're trying to clean it up so, it'll take one day at a time, but it'll get done."

The Harrington Fire Company says it has been on scene almost nonstop, for downed power lines and scattered debris.

The department says, if damage is severe, it will always be there to help.

"If they need to get somewhere, we can always notify the Red Cross, and some other stuff that is available. Usually it is through the Red Cross, we notify them if people can't stay in their residences," said Deputy Chief Kenny Brode.

Eric Dawson was driving through Harrington at the time of the storm. His drive home certainly got interesting.

"Suddenly the rain started coming heavier, the winds became heavier, and before I knew it, my truck started rotating and that's when I realized what was going on. We were in it before we knew it, nobody saw it coming, and I've got a lot of damage to my truck," he said.

Eric says his home and everyone he knows is okay, but he will never forget what he went through yesterday.

"It was an experience that I don't want to experience again," Dawson said.

But as Shika said, houses and cars can be replaced. The most important thing for everyone,

is that everyone in Harrington made it out unscathed.
