One Critically Injured in St. Michaels Crash

SOUTH BETHANY, Del.- Delaware State Police say a bicyclist who collided with a car on Coastal Highway in South Bethany on the Fourth of July has succumbed to her injuries.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday, when a 2005 Toyota Sienna, operated by a 50-year-old Red Lion, Pa. man, was traveling southbound on Coastal Highway in the left lane, approaching Evergreen Road. Troopers said that meantime, a bicycle, operated by a 27-year-old Annapolis, Md., woman was traveling westbound across the median of Coastal Highway and proceeded into the southbound lanes, directly into the path of the Toyota.

The bicyclist, identified as 27-year-old Kelly M. Scruggs was initially transported to the Beebe Hospital before being transferred to the Christian Hospital where police said she died from her injuries on Saturday, July 6.  

Police said that at the time of the crash Scruggs was not wearing a helmet and had no functioning lights on the bicycle.
