SEAFORD, Del.- Crews are cleaning up after several railroad cars hauling soybeans derailed in Seaford on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred on South Porter Street and Nanticoke Avenue near the Seaford wastewater plant.

Baron Emery, director of operations with Delmarva Central Railroad, which operates the line, said there were no injuries and no hazardous materials involved.

According to Emery, DCR's investigation determined the derailment was not caused by operator error. He said while the derailment may have been due to a possible issue with a car or track, the exact cause may never be known. A federal investigation is not likely because the derailment did not meet the damage threshold, Emery said.

Seaford police said drivers should expect road closures at South Porter Street at Nanticoke and Harrington streets for at least several days to allow for track repairs and repaving.

It will likely be several days before the derailed cars are uprighted, officials said.
