BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a Tuesday night fire that left a woman dead in Bridgeville.
The blaze, reported shortly before 10 p.m., occurred in the 14000 of Sussex Highway. The Bridgeville Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames engulfing the home.
WBOC spoke with a woman who was inside the home at the time. She said she was in the home at the time of the fire with her boyfriend, two kids, and her boyfriend's grandmother. The woman said that at around 9:45 p.m., her son noticed a fire in the garage which is connected to the home.
She said they all made it out the house, except her boyfriend's grandmother. Bridgeville Fire Chief Jack Cannon later confirmed that firefighters found the body of a woman inside the home. Cannon said when firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the fire fully involved.
"We needed a lot of water," Cannon said. "We had Greenwood, ourselves, a lot of standby on scene. Blades was on the scene, Seaford was on the scene."
State fire investigators are on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. The Division of Forensic Science will conduct an autopsy on the victim.
Heavy fire damage was estimated at $100,000.
