SALISBURY, Md. - Wicomico County's proposed capital improvement plan for 2020-2024 has been submitted to the county council.
The five-year plan helps the county in its long-range financial and public works plans across different departments and agencies.
"Rarely does every department get exactly what they want, but we do our best. We're limited in terms of how much revenue we have. We're also limited in terms of how much we borrow per year," said Assistant Director of Administration Weston Young.
For fiscal year 2020, school improvements, projects at the Salisbury Regional Airport, and the project to build a new public safety building topped the priority list.
Youth community activist Jermichael Mitchell said the investment in education is critical.
"It's vital that kids feel safe and comfortable with what goes on in their school district," said Mitchell.
The capital improvement plan must be approved by the county council.
Once the plan is approved, Young said the projects will be rolled over into the county budget.
However, Young stressed things can change if revenue changes.
The capital improvement plan should be approved by February.
