CRISFIELD, MD.- The mayor and city council of Crisfield announced Thursday their appointment of David Dalfonso as Crisfield's new chief of police.
Dalfonso began his employment with the Crisfield on Wednesday, June 3. The city said Dalfonso, who brings close to 29 years of law enforcement experience to the job, will fill the role vacated by Michael Tabor, who retired in January 2020.
Throughout his law enforcement career, Dalfonso has worked for the Salisbury City Police Department as well as Maryland State Police where he served Maryland’s Lower-Shore Region. Most recently Dalfonso served as a lieutenant for the Salisbury University Police Department.
Commenting on his appointment, Dalfonso said, "I believe this city to be a hidden gem to be honest, and I’m really excited, I have a lot of ideas, and I’m excited to make this something the citizens of Crisfield can be really proud of.”
"Crisfield has specific issues and I plan on addressing them immediately," Dalfonso continued. "I think you are going to see some good things.”
Crisfield Mayor Barry Dize said, "We are looking forward to having Chief Dalfonso on board. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and is very enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve the City of Crisfield. Welcome to the team!”
"We have a fantastic group of people that work for the City of Crisfield in our police department and I thank everyone of them," Dize continued. "I can guarantee that everyone one of them will give you the support you need because that’s just the type of people they are, fantastic people.”
The city also recognized Acting Chief Richard Taylor for his contributions, knowledge and leadership offered during this period of transition
