East New Market Fire Leaves Family Dog Dead, $170K in Damages

EAST NEW MARKET, Md.- The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a house fire that left a family dog dead and caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage Sunday morning.

Authorities said that just after 8 a.m. Sunday, a passerby discovered the fire on the 5600 block of Beach Haven Road in East New Market. Forty firefighters took about an hour to get the blaze under control. Estimated damage has accumulated to about $170,000.

Authorities say the family's pet dog passed away in the fire. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The Fire Marshal's Office says the origin of the fire most likely came from the kitchen and a preliminary investigation determined it was an accidental, electrical fire.

The fire remained under investigation as of Monday morning.
