THE OWNER OF Sanchez BUTCHER SHOP IN Salisbury TELLS WBOC THEY HAVE TO PAY A PREMIUM TO KEEP THEIR INVENTORY WELL-STOCKED. THEY WORRY THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HANDLE THE INFLUX OF CUSTOMERS REQUESTING MEALS.
BEEF, PORK, PIG feet, AND ESPECIALLY TURKEY ARE A FEW FOOD ITEMS THE OWNER OF Sanchez BUTCHER SHOP WANTS TO KEEP IN STOCK. Uziel Sanchez SAYS HE EXPECTS MORE FAMILY GATHERINGS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON COMPARED TO LAST YEAR AND WITH INCREASED DEMAND AND LIMITED SUPPLIES, IT WOULD MAKE IT DIFFICULT FOR HIS BUSINESS.
"My customers right now are looking for more specials on flat turkey wings. Everybody wants turkey wings this time and my concern is I may run short and the price will be really high and I don't want to do that to happen. That is my concern," says Sanchez.
WITH SUPPLY SHORTAGES LEADING TO HIGHER PRICES, SHOPPERS LIKE Kenny Ewell, say THEY ARE STUCK between A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE.
"You know people getting back to their families and reuniting and enjoying each other. The thing about it is with the food shortage and what's going on and stuff, they're jacking the prices up on food but what can we do, we have to eat," says Ewell.
SANCHEZ SAYS HE PLACED AN ORDER FOR 30 CASES OF MEAT. HE HOPES TO HAVE IT BY THANKSGIVING. However, he WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE TWO TO THREE WEEKS BEFORE HE RECEIVES IT.
WITH THE SUPPLY-CHAIN CHALLENGES, MANY ECONOMISTS WARN HOLIDAY GROCERY LISTS WILL LIKELY COST MORE. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY SAY MANY ITEMS MAY BE TOUGH TO TRACK DOWN.
